Artist Obsession: The Antlers

As most of my musical obsessions begin, this one was by accident. Urban Outfitters creates free playlists every once and a while (and you can download 5 free songs every Monday) and at the end of the year, they released their Best Music of 2011. This playlist was where I discovered The Antlers.

The song on UO's playlist was I Don't Want Love, and if you've heard that before song you'd understand why it caught my attention. It's so haunting and beautiful and full of emotion, I literally listened to it 300 times within the span of 2 days while doing this. (Seriously, check my Last.fm)

I recently purchased their first album Hospice while downtown last month. It's not an album so much as a musical narrative. It tells the story of a relationship, comparing to to that of a cancer patient and their caretaker. I once actually thought it would be a good idea to listen to this album and re-read The Fault in Our Stars, and realized it would just be one big cry-fest.

My favourite tracks off of Hospice are Bear, Two, Kettering and Shiva.

Burst Apart is equally amazing but I only have a few tracks so far. As usual I'm going to leave a few songs below and I hope you'll give them a listen!

I Don't Want Love

Bear

Every Night My Teeth Are Falling Out

Two

French Exit

Shiva

I hope you've enjoyed this post, and leave a comment below telling me what you think about The Antlers!
